Brighton Gala Day
About the Brighton Gala Day
The Brighton Gala Day is a fun family day out. The event has grown over the last 25 plus years attracting crowds of over 12,000 visitors to the small beach side community at Brighton - the "Riviera of the South". It is held annually at the Brighton Domain just 25 minutes drive from the centre of the city. The event runs from 10 am to 5 pm and has a variety of attractions including over 150 plus food and craft stalls. There is also a great food area handy to the bands, musicians and entertainment throughout the day.
The event has something for all the family which includes a great variety of rides and activities such as slides, water park, merry go rounds, bumber cars etc. There is also scheduled demonstrations from the emergency services such as Fire brigade, St Johns, Red Cross and New Zealand Police and motorcross displays. Helicopters Otago have been a feature with value rides along the coastline. The 150+ stalls have just about everything for sale and make for a great day of browsing, purchasing and inspiration.
The event is run in conjunction with the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club who provide excellent life saving patrols at the adjacent beach. A gold coin donation is appreciated to help towards providing this wonderful volunteer service and its facility.
Its a good old fashioned family day out - something to mark on your calendar as a "must do" in Dunedin.
